It will be open to anyone who wants to learn, brush-up on their skills or just wants to work on an already existing project.

ABE
▪Learn Spanish: Sundays from 6-8 p.m. in the Adult Basic Education Room.
Four students from Notre Dame will be coming to the ABE room to help students learn Spanish.
▪Positive Life Skills: Wednesdays, 9-11:30 a.m.
▪Developing Capable People: Do you want to learn more about yourself and others? Do you need “new information” to get your life on track? Do you work during the day and want to learn at night? Are you waiting for your health to get better? Are you waiting for disability or SSI or housing or a 2nd chance?
This 10-week evening class is for you!! Wednesday and Thursday nights, 5:30 -8 p.m. Starts February 11. Ask your coach to get on the list. Class size is limited.
▪Public Speaking Class: Wednesdays, 7-8:30 p.m., January 14, 21, 28, and February 4. Those who attend all four sessions will get a certificate.
▪ABE Incentives: Students will be given a card to be initialed during each walk-in class attended. Once a student has attended 10 walk-in programs, cards can be redeemed for prizes.
▪GED: All GED-bound students are welcome to attend. The class meets from 1-3 p.m. Fridays and includes group discussions and time to work on testing, individual assignments and the computer. Please see ABE for details.
▪Poetry Jam: Mondays, 3-4 p.m.
▪Writing: Tuesdays, 7 p.m., ABE. Improve your basic writing skills under the guidance of a trained instructor.
▪Reading: Tuesdays, 6 p.m.
▪Creative Writing: Creative writing will resume January 15.
▪Math: Computation--Tuesdays, 7:30-8:30 p.m. and Fridays, 1-2 p.m.; Applied--Thursdays, 3-4 p.m. and Fridays, 2-3 p.m.

Chelsea for Congress: For those of you (maybe I’m the only one) who are wondering if Chelsea Clinton might be interested in the vacant New York Congressional seat, it won’t necessarily be that easy.
New York Gov. David Paterson appointed the former U.S. representative from the largely rural district, Kirsten Gillibrand, to replace Chelsea’s mom, Hillary, in the U.S. Senate.
When a Congressional seat becomes open, however, a special election needs to be held and there are probably residency requirements (although the Clintons have been able to get around those).
Chelsea would have the advantage of her name recognition, her education--a bachelor’s degree from Stanford and a master’s degree in international relations from Oxford (the one in England, not the one in Arkansas which Jethro Bodine attended)--and the fact that she has had more experience campaigning than the average person.
Chelsea also hasn’t formally stated whether she is interested in Senator-designate Gillibrand’s seat since it just became open. It would give her an opportunity to help carry on her mother’s work in Congress.
She’s at a good age to begin a political career, 28; no one can question her qualifications for a Congressional seat like they did Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg’s for the vacant Senate seat.
It would be an advantage for the district. Having Chelsea as their representative in Congress would give the district recognition.
