Memorial for Larry Elliott: There will be a memorial service for retired New Passages Director Larry Elliott Thursday, June 26, in the CFH Community Room.

Larry passed away this month after a long battle with cancer. He retired from New Passages in December of last year after 13 years as director.

Those who knew him here are asked to write a testimonial; it can be a paragraph or a page. These will be gathered together in a scrapbook and sent to Larry’s family in North Carolina: Jeff, Erin and their children, Cora and Hayden.

Notre Dame Summer Scholars Program: All CFH guests are invited for conversation and socializing with the high school students of the Notre Dame Summer Scholars Program at a social in the CFH dining room Tuesday, June 24, at 8:30 p.m. and Thursday, June 26, at 8:30 p.m.

Refreshments will be served.

Silver Hawks Tickets: All ticket requests must go through the development department. In addition, the Silver Hawks are unable to ac-commodate requests on short notice. If a guest is interested in attending a game please contact Jacqueline Kronk.

Artistic Newsletter: Are you an artist, poet or writer? Place submissions for the Artistic Newsletter in Emily Pickerill’s box. Express your talents and ideas by participating. Start submitting as soon as possible.

ABE

▪Game Night: Come to the ABE Room Thursday, June 26, 5:30-8 p.m., for a night of games, food, and fun!

Games include: Scattergories, Scrabble, Checkers, Chess, Dominoes, and more.

▪Computer Classes: Beginning—starts July 11. Fridays, 10-30-noon for four sessions. Sign up in ABE.

▪ABE Incentives: Students will be given a card to be initialed during each walk-in class attended. Once a student has attended 10 walk-in programs, cards can be redeemed for prizes.

▪Math Study Sessions: Mondays, 3-4 p.m., and Thursdays, 6:30-7:30 p.m., SOSH room.

▪GED Essay Writing Class: Are you working on your GED? Do you need to write an essay or refine your writing skills? Then join us for the Essay Class, Wednesdays, 3-4 p.m.

▪Submit Your Poem: If you like to write poetry in your free time, this is your chance to be a published author! Submit a poem to any staff member in the ABE room and it may be published in the next ABE Newsletter. Also, we will hopefully start another Poetry Jam in the Fall; let us know if you are interested

The Write Stuff: Are you the only person who can read your handwriting? Come join us on Tuesday afternoons from 2-3 p.m. to learn writing that will look great on job applications, love letters, and everything else. Class starts May 6. Sign up in ABE.

▪Writing: Wednesdays, 3-4 p.m., ABE. Improve your basic writing skills under the guidance of a trained instructor.

▪Creative Writing: Starts June 12. Thursdays, 6-7 p.m.; open to everyone.

Silver Hawks 7, Dragons 5: The Silver Hawks (5-1) survived a 4-run eighth inning by host Dayton for their second straight win over the Dragons.

The Silver Hawks scored their runs in a 4-run first inning and 3-run seventh inning.

Derrick Walker had two hits—including a 3-run homer in the first inning. Aaron Hanke had a single in the second and double in the seventh. He scored on a double by Elijah Rumler.

William Spottiswood struck out two of the three batters he faced in the ninth for his fifth save.

The teams meet again tonight at 7 p.m..

Zambrano On DL: Cub ace Carlos Zambrano is on the 15-day disabled list, although a scan on his (right) pitching shoulder revealed only a minor strain.

Zambrano injured his throwing shoulder a week ago against the Tampa Bay Rays. He is expected to miss two starts.

Tiger Has Surgery: Tiger Woods had reconstructive surgery on his left knee yesterday.

It was the second time in 10 weeks Woods had surgery on the knee and the fourth time since 1994.

Doctors said that with proper rehabilitation and training Woods should not have any long-term effects from the injury.

Woods will miss the rest of the season which includes the PGA, British Open, and Ryder Cup.

Five Dead in Kentucky Plant Shooting: An employee at a plastics plant in Henderson, Ky., shot and killed four of his fellow workers .before shooting himself today.
