Local

Noted Restaurateur Dies: Local restaurateur Rocco Ameduri, 90, a former allied prisoner-of-war in World War II who learned to cook in the camps, died this weekend.

Mr. Ameduri turned his small northeast side restaurant, "Rocco's" into an institution among Notre Dame students and alumni. The walls of the restaurant sport pictures of such notable ND alumni as Regis Philbin and Joe Montana.

Mr. Amerduri had turned over active management of the restaurant to his daughter and son-in-law in 1991 but remained a fixture there.

Uncle Ron's Sports Ramblings

Cowboys Haven't Announced New Scapegoat: I have been derelict in not keeping my readers abreast of the Tony (Romo)-Jessica (Simpson) situation; of course it's old news that the two are now splitsville. That means the Cowboys will have to appoint a new scapegoat in case they fail to meet their expectations on the football field again this year.

According to whatever gossip web site I googled, Tony consoled himself after the split by going to a night club with friends in Chicago (his native state is Illinois). Most of the friends were reportedly female and attractive. The web site said some female patrons of the club had to be restrained so the all-pro QB was not trapped in the pocket.

Personally I would rather be sacked by Hilary or Jessica Tuck than Justin Tuck, although Justin is a Domer and one of that elite group of ND alums—Domers with rings (Justin was a member of the Super Bowl winning Giants). That group includes Joe Theisman, Joe Montana, Kelly Tripucka, and Bill Laimbeer.

Actually, Hilary or Jessica Tuck would probably be invited to Tony's table even though they aren't on the "A" list of actresses. They could either show the bouncer their SAG cards or perhaps he might recognize Jessica from "Days of Our Lives" or Hilary from the Disney Channel (she's grown up since her Disney days of course).

With my luck the one time my "O" line does its job would probably be the time Hilary and Jessica (Tuck or Simpson) are about to pile on me.
