Romney Drops Out of Race: Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney dropped out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination yesterday.
Romney trailed front-runner John McCain in the delegate count, 707-294 after this week’s “Super Tuesday” primaries and caucuses.
Romney did not formally endorse McCain.

Underground Railroad: The Underground Railroad will be performed February 18 at the CFH Monday night meeting.
The Underground Railroad is a original play based on actual historical incidents. The cast of CFH staff members and guests is rehearsing three days a week under the direction of author David Evans.
Car Registration: CFH Guests: If you own a motor vehicle, you need to register it with your coach or it could be towed.
“One Step At a Time” Running Group: Three days a week (times and days TBA). Will meet at CFH. Open to Center guests and anyone else who is interested in learning to run. All runners will receive the necessary running gear (i.e. running shoes, shorts, warm-ups, shirts, hats, etc.). There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board by the basement stairway near the men’s lounge.
Artistic Newsletter: Are you an artist, poet or writer? Place submissions for the new Artistic Newsletter in Emily Pickerill’s box. Express your talents and ideas by participating. Start submitting as soon as possible.

VA Hospital Van: To schedule a ride to the VA Hospital in Ft. Wayne, St. Joseph County veterans can call Doug Davis (USMC, retired) at (574) 243-VETS (8387).
The van service also provides connecting rides to the VA hospitals in Marion and Indianapolis. .

We will discuss short stories and poems.
▪Poetry Jam: Tuesday, 7-8 p.m. Share your own work; read a favorite poem; or listen, relax, and enjoy.
▪Writing: Wednesdays, 3-4 p.m., ABE. Improve your basic writing skills under the guidance of a trained instructor.
▪Creative Writing: Thursdays, 8-9 p.m. Develop your creative writing skills. You don’t have to sign up, just show up. Volunteers from Notre Dame will be there.
▪Fractions and Decimals Refresher Courses: Tuesdays, fractions, and Thursdays, decimals, in the second floor conference room. Everyone is welcome. For more information, contact ABE.

Gunman Kills Five in Missouri: A gunman killed five people at a town council meeting in Kirkwood, Mo. and wounded two others before being shot and killed by police Wednesday.

(14) IU 83, Illinois 79: Armon Basset scored 11 of his 16 points for the Hoosiers (19-3, 8-1 Big Ten) in front of an Illini crowd that was more hostile than usual.
IU freshman Eric Gordon scored 19 points—including a clutch 3-pointer late in regulation-- while being booed, taunted, and cursed by the Illini faithful. Gordon had committed to Illinois before changing his mind and deciding to stay in his home state.
Jamarcus Ellis grabbed 11 rebounds for the Hoosiers.
Demetri McCarney scored 31 points for Illinois.
Alma 68, Saint Mary’s 64: New Prairie graduate Alison Kessler again led host Saint Mary’s (9-11, 5-7 MIAA) with 18 points.
The Belles led by as much as seven points in the first half, but couldn’t hold on at the end.
Kate Rashid added 12 points and eight assists for SMC.

Candace Parker Injured: Candace Parker, star forward for the number-two rated Tennessee Lady Volunteers basketball team, is listed as day-to-day after suffering a knee injury in Thursday’s game against Mississippi State.
Martin to Drive Number 8 Car: Mark Martin has signed with Dale Earnhardt, Inc. to drive the number 8 Chevy during this year”s NASCAR season.
The veteran driver will share number 8 with rookie Aric Almirola.
The number 8 car became available when Dale Earnhardt, Jr., left his late father’s team to join Hendrick Motorsports. Dale, Jr., will be driving number 88 for Hendrick.
Ryan Newman Among 23 Drivers in Budweiser Shootout: South Bend’s Ryan Newman is among the 23 drivers in Saturday’s Budweiser Shootout at Daytona International Speedway.
Kurt Busch has won the pole position for the non-points all-star race that features pole winners from the previous NASCAR season and past Shootout winners.
The drivers will be using the current generation race car, formerly known as the Car of Tomorrow.
The race will be shown at 8 p.m., Saturday, on FOX-28.
