Election 2008
Obama Widens Lead With Decisive Wins in Hawaii, Wisconsin: Barack Obama widened his lead in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination with decisive wins in the Wisconsin primary and Hawaii caucuses Tuesday.
The Wisconsin vote was not as close as the polls indicated with the junior senator from Illinois winning 58%-41%. Obama was expected the win in the state of his birth, Hawaii, and he did overwhelmingly, 76%-24%.
The AP count shows Obama with 1,303 of the 2,025 delegates needed for nomination to 1,233 for Clinton.
Republicans voted in Wisconsin and Washington state. John McCain won in Wisconsin, 55%-37% and was leading in Washington state, 49%-22% with 57% of the precincts reporting.
With the 31 Wisconsin delegates McCain has 939 delegates. If ex-candidate Mitt Romney’s delegates switch to McCain—which they’re not obligated to do even though Romney has endorsed McCain—that would give him 1,192, one more than the 1,191 he needs to wrap up the nomination.
