Local

Fire Damages Home: South Bend firefighters were called out at 1:30 a.m. this morning to battle a house fire in the 300 block of Hamden Ct. off of LaSalle St. west of downtown.
Fire department officials say no one was home; they were able to rescue a dog.
The SBFD also responded to a 8 a.m. building fire at Jefferson and Walnut this morning.

Robertson Endorses Giuliani:
Former New York City Mayor and Republican presidential candidate Rudy Guiliani picked up a important endorsement yesterday from evangelical leader Pat Roberston.
Roberston, a former GOP presidential candidate himself, said Guiliani was a fiscal conservative and a strong foe of terrorism.
Guiliani has been criticized by social conservatives because of his support for abortion and gay rights.

Basketball

ND 71, St. Edwards (Texas) 56:
Forwards Rob Kurz and Luke Harangody scored 15 points each in the Irish’ final exhibition game.
Kurz and Harangody grabbed nine and eight rebounds, respectively.
Junior guard Kyle McAlarney, returning from a suspension, chipped in 12 points. Sophomore Tory Jackson added 11 points.
The Irish begin the regular season November 12, hosting Long Island.
ND Women: The Notre Dame women begin the regular season with a Women’s NIT game. The Lady Irish host Miami, Oh., Friday at 9 p.m.
