Col. Tibbets Dies: Paul Tibbets, the commander of the plane that dropped the first atomic bomb on Japan in 1945, died yesterday at the age of 92.
Tibbets, a 30-year-old colonel in 1945, commanded the Enola Gay, a B-29 Superfortress named for his mother.
Tibbets said he regretted killing 80,000 people but he throught the mission was necessary to avoid a bloody invasion of Japan.

(11) Virginia Tech 27, Georgia Tech 3: Sean Glennon threw two long touchdown passes and ran for another as the Hokies (7-2, 4-1 ACC) held on to a share of first place in the ACC Coastal Division.
Glennon and two other Hokie players had to play in borrowed Georgia Tech road jersies after losing theirs. The Yellowjackets drop to 5-4 overall and 2-4 in the ACC.

Torre to Manage Dodgers: Sixty-seven-year-old Joe Torre is not ready to head off into retirement after turning down a pay cut from the Yankees.
Torre, the winningest manager in postseason history, signed a three-year, $13-million deal Thursday to manage the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Torre grew up in Brooklyn rooting against the Dodgers when they were based there. He won four World Series in five years with the Yankees and made the playoffs every year during his 12-year tenure.
