Luecke Introduces, Endorses Obama: South Bend Mayor Steven Luecke introduced Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama to a crowd of over 3,500 at Washington High School last night and also endorsed him. Luecke had been neutral in the race.

Obama told the crowd, “We’re going to provide a $4000 tuition credit, every student every year, but you’re not going to get it for free. You’re going to have to give something back; you’re going to have to participate in community service or national service, work in a homeless shelter, work in a veteran’s home, join the peace corp. We’ll invest in you, you invest in America. Together we’ll move this country forward.”

South Bend was the first stop on Obama’s campaign swing through Indiana. The Hoosier primary, with 72 delegates and 13 super delegates, is May 6. The super delegates are free to vote for the candidate of their choice.

Hillary Returns to Mishawaka Saturday: Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton plans to make a second campaign stop in Mishawaka Saturday. The Clinton campaign staff would not give any details on where or when their candidate would appear.
