Local

Work Progressing on CFH Garden: The city water department is running water lines to the CFH garden north of the CFH building for a tap..

The water line installation is the latest step in the development of the garden. Earlier, contaminated topsoil was removed from the site and 500 daffodil bulbs were planted.

Soon vegetables will be planted (leading to the inevitable argument of whether a tomato is a vegetable or fruit) and more flowers and plants, such as lilac bushes. The developers of the project also hope to begin paving the front portion of the garden, according to Emily Pickerill.

Hillary to Speak at Cove Saturday: Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, fresh off her win in today’s Pennsylvania primary (see back page), will speak at South Bend’s Coveleski Stadium Saturday. Doors will open at noon for the 2 p.m. rally.

The weather forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the low 60’s.

Clinton Wins Crucial Pennsylvania Primary: Senator Hillary Clinton has won the Pennsylvania primary election, keeping her campaign for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination alive. Clinton beat Barack Obama by a 10-point margin—55% to 45%--enough to mute calls to quite the race.

After a tough and often nasty campaign, a jubilant Hillary Clinton stood among supporters, covered with confetti and relishing the win.

“It is a long road to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, and it runs right through the heart of Pennsylvania!” Clinton said.

It was a moment of joy for a candidate short on both delegates and campaign funds.

Senator Obama congratulated her on her victory, while emphasizing he remains the frontrunner in the race for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination. He noted that at the start of the Pennsylvania primary campaign, Hillary Clinton had a roughly 20-point lead in voter preference polls.

Clinton and Obama split the Pennsylvania delegates 80-66 which still gives him a 1,714.5-1,589.5 lead; 2,025 delegates are needed for the nomination.

The candidates will now focus their efforts on the May 6 Indiana and North Carolina primaries with 187 total delegates at stake and 32 superdelegates..

Guam, with four delegates, will hold its caucuses May 3.
