Uncle Ron's Ramblings

Love Lost: Could somebody tell me why poor Jennifer Love Hewitt always has to be preempted for politics.
Suggestion for the organizers of the presidential debate. Since the debate follows "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" on the Fox network, perhaps the candidates should be allowed to see—and let the voters see—whether they are smarter than 5th graders. That would be more enlightening to voters.
Actually when the show was in its planning stages the producers thought about calling it "Are You Smarter Than a Politician?". The idea was rejected because they finally decided that concept wouldn't be much of a challenge for contestants.
They also thought about naming it "Is a Politician Smarter Than Jennifer Love Hewitt" but they didn't think that would be much of a challenge for Love.

Uncle Ron's Sports Ramblings

Should Cub Fans Get Hopes Up: I hate to pour cold water on the Cub fans' celebration but they still have to get past the first round of the playoffs.

If they do make it to the final round, will they ban anyone named Bartman or Garvey from Wrigley Field. And I would definitely keep a goat in the dugout just to be on the safe sidemaybe they could get a little Nubian goatplus they might want to consider adding goat's milk to the concession menu.

Ask Aunt Rona

Dear Aunt Rona:

I don't know if it's really worth it to vote anymore. Here we are paying $700-billion to bail out greedy Wall St. bankers and all the politicians are talking about is how many houses the other one has or putting lipstick on pit bulls?

And then they have the nerve to close the bars on election day when you really need a good stiff belt.

Fed Up

Dear Fed:

Remember what another senator from Illinois, Everett McKinley Dirkson, once said, "a billion here and a billion there and pretty soon you're talking about real money.

I'd say don't give up the vote, dearie. A lot of people paid a high price to secure it for us. And they do open the bars as soon as the polls close.

And I don't know if a good stiff belt is the solution to all life's problems. Suspenders work just fine or a nice pretty sash.

Love,

Aunt Rona

(Should Aunt Rona be timed out again. She does like a little nip once in a while [and the occasional tuck.] Let us know).

Uncle Ron's Ramblings

Is Steeler's Gesture Most Expensive "Bird" Ever: I know I'm not the only one who wondered after reading about Pittsburgh Steeler James Farrior's $7,500 fine for an obscene gesture directed at Cleveland Browns fans if that was a record for the most expensive "bird."

It turns out it's not. Blue Mutation Amazons go for $18,000-20,000; the reason is the difficulty breeding them in captivity. Gang-Gang or Palm Cockatoos run about $12,000-$15,000 although some Cockatoos can be bought for only $5,000. A Hyacinth Macaw sells for $10,000 although you can buy a blue and gold one (appropriate for ND fans) for $1,200.

Mr. Farrior might want to buy one just to remind himself to think before he gestures, that is if he hasn't already used up his "bird" budget.
