Nation/World

Bhutto Widower Sworn In as Musharraf Successor: Asif Ali Zardari, widower of slain former Pakastani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, has been elected President of Pakistan. He was sworn in today in an indoor ceremony in Pakistan's presidential palace.

Zardari met with Afghan President Hamid Karzai after the ceremony. The two heads of state agreed to work together in the fight against terrorism and the Taliban.

Zardari has been plagued by charges of corruption and has spent 11 years in prison.

No candidate got a majority of votes in the Electoral College.

The presidency of the largely Muslim nation has traditionally been ceremonial with actual power residing in the prime minister. Some presidents, like the recently-resigned Pervez Musharraf, have taken a more active role in government.

Court Orders Thai PM To Resign: The Constitutional Court has ordered Thai Prime Minister Samak Sundarevej to resign today because he broke the law by hosting a cooking show on commercial television while in office.

Uncle Ron's Ramblings

Unsubstantiated Rumor: Due to the success of "Hamlet 2", the sequel "MacBeth: The Next Generation" is being rushed into production. The Herald has been able to obtain some excerpts.

"Out, out, d…. Spot."

"Give Spottie a break, Dear. It's cold outside.

"Double, double, toil and trouble."

"What are you doing, Mac?"

"Reading Carlos Zambrano's pitching line. He had a rocky outing the other day."

"If it were done when 'twer done then tis well it were done quickly."

"Give me a break, Dad. I'll take the trash out. I'm up to level 5 here. You know this dungeon looks like the one in the old home castle."

"Could be. A dungeon's a dungeon. There hasn't been much evolution in dungeon design since Torquemada."

"Look at that, the MacDuffs are remodeling their house. They're going to be kings of the neighborhood."

"We'll have to do something about that, Dear."
