Marquette, School Plans Approved: A $36-million school renovation project in south Bend was approved yesterday by the Department of Local Government Finance.
The plan includes building a new Marquette School while preserving the old one.
Parent to Run for School Board: Former South Bend Mayor Roger Parent has filed to run for a spot on the South Bend Community School Corporation Board of Trustees.
Parent is running for an at-large seat.

South Bend pitchers had held the Dragons to one earned run through nine innings. Starter Christian Beltre pitched 7.2 innings, giving up five hits, one earned run, one walk, and striking out five.

Memorial for Larry Elliott: There will be a memorial service for retired New Passages Director Larry Elliott Thursday, June 26, in the CFH Community Room.
Larry passed away this month after a long battle with cancer. He retired from New Passages in December of last year after 13 years as director.

Pacers Trade Jermaine O’Neal: The Indiana Pacers have agreed in principle to a deal that will send six-time All-Star forward/center Jermaine O’Neal to the Toronto Raptors for point guard T.J. Ford, the 17th pick in today’s NBA draft, Rasho Nesterovic, and another role player.
O’Neal is owed $44-million over the next two seasons. He played just 42 games for the Pacers a year ago after suffering a knee injury; he has expressed a desire to leave the Pacers for a contender.

The Silver Hawks scored their runs in a 4-run first inning and 3-run seventh inning.
Derrick Walker had two hits—including a 3-run homer in the first inning. Aaron Hanke had a single in the second and double in the seventh. He scored on a double by Elijah Rumler.
William Spottiswood struck out two of the three batters he faced in the ninth for his fifth save.

Zambrano On DL: Cub ace Carlos Zambrano is on the 15-day disabled list, although a scan on his (right) pitching shoulder revealed only a minor strain.
Zambrano injured his throwing shoulder a week ago against the Tampa Bay Rays. He is expected to miss two starts.
Tiger Has Surgery: Tiger Woods had reconstructive surgery on his left knee yesterday.
It was the second time in 10 weeks Woods had surgery on the knee and the fourth time since 1994.
Doctors said that with proper rehabilitation and training Woods should not have any long-term effects from the injury.
Woods will miss the rest of the season which includes the PGA, British Open, and Ryder Cup.

Schilling Has Shoulder Surgery; Could Come Back: Curt Schilling could come back from yesterday’s rotator cuff surgery despite his age.
Doctors said there was no meaningful rotator cuff problem as feared in the shoulder which means the 41-year-old right-hander could make a comeback if he wants to.
Schilling could be throwing off a mound by January and back in the rotation by the middle of next season.
