Election 2008

Obama Sweeps Weekend Voting: Barack Obama pulled ahead of Hilary Clinton in the race for the Democratic Party presidential nomination by sweeping this past weekend’s primaries and caucuses.
The Illinois senator had wins in Washington state, Louisiana, Nebraska, Maine, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
NBC’s official (unofficial) delegate count has Obama leading Clinton in delegates 943-895 with 132 still to be allocated.
Republican front-runner John McCain lost races in Louisiana and Kansas. He was leading in Washington state but the race was still too close to call.
NBC’s count has McCain leading Mike Huckabee 724-234. Ron Paul has 14 delegates. Of the ex-candidates, Mitt Romney has the most delegates with 234.
Primaries will be held tomorrow in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia.

Underground Railroad:
The Underground Railroad will be performed February 18 at the CFH Monday night meeting.
The Underground Railroad is a original play based on actual historical incidents. The cast of CFH staff members and guests is rehearsing three days a week under the direction of author David Evans.
Car Registration: CFH Guests: If you own a motor vehicle, you need to register it with your coach or it could be towed.
“One Step At a Time” Running Group: Three days a week (times and days TBA). Will meet at CFH. Open to Center guests and anyone else who is interested in learning to run. All runners will receive the necessary running gear (i.e. running shoes, shorts, warm-ups, shirts, hats, etc.). There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board by the basement stairway near the men’s lounge.
Artistic Newsletter: Are you an artist, poet or writer? Place submissions for the new Artistic Newsletter in Emily Pickerill’s box. Express your talents and ideas by participating. Start submitting as soon as possible.

VA Hospital Van: To schedule a ride to the VA Hospital in Ft. Wayne, St. Joseph County veterans can call Doug Davis (USMC, retired) at (574) 243-VETS (8387).
The van service also provides connecting rides to the VA hospitals in Marion and Indianapolis. .

Introductory Computer Classes started February 8. They will be Fridays, 10:30-noon and 1-2 p.m. Sign up in ABE.

▪Writing: Wednesdays, 3-4 p.m., ABE. Improve your basic writing skills under the guidance of a trained instructor.
▪Creative Writing: Thursdays, 8-9 p.m. Develop your creative writing skills. You don’t have to sign up, just show up. Volunteers from Notre Dame will be there.

Representative Tom Lantos Dies: U. S. Representative Tom Lantos (D-CA), the only Holocaust survivor elected the the U.S. Congress, died today after recently being diagnosed with cancer.

(22) ND Men 86, (16) Marquette 83
: Luke Harangody has his fifth straight double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds Saturday as the host Irish (18-4, 8-2 Big East) avenged one of their two Big East defeats this season.
The Irish went six minutes without a field goal at the end of the game but were 10-of-10 from the free throw line. They outshot the Golden Eagles 24-of-31 to 5-of-8 from the charity stripe.
It was the 34th straight home win for the Irish. Marquette was the last visiting team to win at the Joyce Center, on February 25, 2006.
(16/17) ND Women 81, (15) Pittsburgh 66: The Lady Irish (18-5, 6-3 Big East) held the visiting Lady Panthers to 31% shooting from the field.
Tulyah Gaines and Lindsay led a balanced ND effort with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Ferris St. Hockey 5, ND 3 (Fri.); ND 2, Ferris St. 2 (Sat.): The host Irish icers (20-10-2, 13-7-2 CCHA) could earn only one out of a possible four points for the weekend action.
The Irish gave up three goals in the third period Friday night.
Defenseman Ian Cole and center Christian Hanson scored goals for ND Saturday. There was no scoring in the overtime, so they had to settle for a tie.
(10 NAIA DII) Bethel Men 86, Goshen 73: The Pilots (21-5, 9-3 ;MCC) notched their 1,000th all-time victory in front of a home crowd.
Tyler Brown led a balanced Pilot effort with 23 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks. William Walker scored 17 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and handed out four assists. Wes Laidig came off the bench to contribute 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field. Ryne Lightfoot scored 13 points and dished out seven assists.
(4 NAIA DII) Bethel Women 102, Goshen 70: Paula Stout led the visiting Lady Pilots (23-2, 12-0 MCC) with 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field plus five rebounds and four assists.
Natalie Young scored 19 points and grabbed nine boards for Bethel. Kelsey McKee scored 15 points on five 3-pointers.
Cassie Grieves led the Lady Maple Leafs with 22 points on 9-of-10 field goal shooting.
St. Francis 86, IUSB Women 70: Jennifer VanderZanden led the visiting Lady Titans (15-10, 2-4 CCAC) as they had to settle for a season split with St. Francis.
Niki McDonald added 15 points and Ewa Comans 14 for IUSB.
(6 NAIA DI) Robert Morris 102, IUSB Men 98: Andre White sank two free throws with 9.5 seconds left to seal the win for visiting Robert Morris (20-2, 5-0 CCAC).
Five Titans (13-11, 0-4 CCAC) scored in double figures led by Terry Hill with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Qdar Owens, Tyler Leighton and Ben Werner contributed 19 each while Dylan Morris came off the bench to score 12 points.
(24) Purdue 72, (8) Wisconsin 67: Purdue’s 6-8 freshman Robbie Hummel scored 21 points as the Boilers (19-5, 10-1) ended Wisconsin’s 16-game Big Ten home win streak.
(14) IU 59, Ohio St. 53: D. J. White scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Hoosiers again won in a tough road environment yesterday.
Freshman Eric Gordon added 15 points for IU (20-3, 9-1 Big Ten).
IU is in a virtual tie with Purdue for the Big Ten lead. Purdue has one more conference win. The Hoosiers and Boilermakers only have one regular season game scheduled this year: February 19 at Assembly Hall in Bloomington.
. Albion 78, Saint Mary’s 70: Senior guard Alison Kessler set a new Belles’ record for 3-pointers in a career with 133.
The senior from New Prairie led the host Belles (9-12, 5-8 MIAA) in scoring with 28 points.
