Election 2008

McCain Picks Up Delegates:
Republican front-runner John McCain picked up 50 more national convention delegates from Michigan and Louisiana this weekend.
Thirty-two of Louisiana’s 47 delegates told the Associated Press that they intend to vote for the Arizona senator.
The majority of Michigan’s presidential delegates said they will back McCain now that Michigan primary winner Mitt Romney has dropped out of the race. It is still unclear how many Michigan delegates will be seated at the convention since the state had been penalized for holding its primary early.
The new delegates give McCain 903 of the 1.191 delegates he needs to clinch the nomination. Mike Huckabee has 245 and Romney’s total drops to 253.

South Bend’s Ryan Newman won the 50th anniversary Daytona 500 Sunday.
On a day when past winners of NASCAR’s premier event were honored, Newman added his name to the list.

Team owner Roger Penske has won 14 times had the Indianapolis 500 but had never won the Daytona 500 until Sunday.
