Florida Party Chairwomoman Says No Revote: There will be no Democratic primary revote in Florida, according to state party chairwoman Karen L. Thurman.

“Thousands of people responded,” Ms. Thurman said in a New York Times interview. “We spent the weekend reviewing your messages, and while your reasons vary widely, the consensus is clear: Florida doesn’t want to vote again. So we won’t.”

Florida and Michigan were stripped of their Democratic National Convention delegates because they moved up the dates of their primaries. Hilary Clinton won both primaries since she was the only candidate who entered, but no delegates have been awarded.

Florida’s 211 delegates and Michigan’s 156 would change the complexion of the Democratic race for the presidential nomination which Barack Obama leads by over 100 votes.

Michigan Democratic party leaders have proposed legislation to conduct a new primary on June 3. The election would be run by the state but be privately financed.

Ms. Thurman noted that the state of Florida would not pay for any new primary election, and party officials could not run a statewide primary or caucus. A number of counties are changing their voting technology and cannot be ready for an early June election. In addition, five Florida counties, because of a history of voting rights violations, must receive clearance from the Department of Justice before conducting any new election.

Paterson Takes Oath as NY Governor: David Paterson was sworn in yesterday as New York governor.

Paterson, who has been legally blind since birth, is New York’s first black governor. He succeeds Eliot Spitzer, who resigned after being implicated in a prostitution scandal.

Dextre, the Space Droid, Operational: Dextre, the 12-foot-tall space robot, has been assembled and installed by a team of space-walking astronauts and is fully operational at the International Space Station.

The Canadian-made droid will practically eliminate the need for space walks, since it can carry out almost any task a human can.
