Kyle Busch Survives Wild Finish at Talladega: Kyle Busch won his second Sprint Cup Race of the season, surviving a wild finish at the Aaron’s 499 at Talladega Sunday.

Busch is second in the Sprint Cup standings, trailing leader Jeff Burton by 22 points; third in the Nationwide Series; and was leading the Craftsman Truck Series until he missed a conflicting race in Kansas City, dropping him to sixth in the points.

Juan Montoya finished second to match his best finish on an oval since moving to NASCAR midway through 2006. Denny Hamlin finished third.

At one time there were two South Bend drivers in the top five. Ryan Newman finished eighth after running as high as third. David Stremme moved up from 43rd to the top five before fading back to 28th after a multi-car crack-up on the final lap.

Stremme was filling in for Dario Franchitti, who replaced him in the number 40 car. Franchitti broke his ankle in Saturday’s Nationwide Series race at Talladega.

It will be Stremme’s last race for his old team. He isn’t available beyond Sunday. Contractual issues with Penske Racing, which recently signed him as a test driver, will not allow him to fill in after Talladega.

Newman is in 11th place in the Sprint Cup standings, 285 points behind the leader Jeff Burton. Dale Earnhardt, Jr.; Hamlin,; and defending champion Jimmie Johnson round out the top five.
